"Many of us understand God to be simply whatever force keeps us clean."
Basic Text, p. 25
Some of us enter recovery with a working understanding of a Higher Power For a lot of us, however, "God" is a troublesome word. We may doubt the existence of any sort of Power greater than ourselves. Or we may remember uncomfortable experiences with religion and shy away from "the God stuff."
Starting over in recovery means we can start over in our spiritual life, too. If we're not comfortable with what we learned when we were growing up, we can try a different approach to our spirituality. We don't have to understand everything all at once or find the answers to all our questions right away. Sometimes it's enough just to know that other NA members believe and that their belief helps keep them clean.
Just for today: All I have to know right now about my Higher Power is that it is the Power that helps keep me clean.
I thought about you on both of the just for today posts Brett.
I try to read them every morning, funny last week I went to a meeting and that day had forgotten to read the just for today, well the chairperson decided out of the blue to read it , I tripped out a bit cause I needed to hear it that afternoon.
About God, just imagine what you would want of your God, what type of spirit you need in your life to strengthen you.
I even question whether theres anything there or not at times but I go on faith that there is and I act as if there is something out there moving me, I feel lost without that faith Brett,
I think trusting in God takes practice, i;ve had to learn the hard way to faith since I left myself with no other choices, my god does expect honesty from me, he's given me a conscience that I have to live with and shown me a moral way of life by bringing certain things into it for me to get involved with.
I have had to start over many times with my spiritual life it has been an educational variety and i'm still being taught I just have to remain teachable.
