I can't sleep. Can you help please.

I'm new to this forum and happy to have found it.

I can't sleep.
I want to get on with my life and that includes getting a job but I can't sleep at night and need to nap during the day.

Can anyone give me an idea how nlong this might last?
I've been clean from heroin for two almost three months but the lack of sleep is exhausting and becoming unbearable.

Can anyone suggest something that might help me?

Thankyou very much.

2 things i suggest that work for me these are Non narcotics.

#1 is GABA Complex (200mg) some comes with inositol if so make sure it also has Niacin in it or you'll get hot flashs.

#2 is Magnesium ( 500mg) take them an hour or so before bed you can take the gaba and mag together but i would start out using them separetly first see which one works best.

I use the GABA in extreme cases of stress I use magnesium on a regular basis, it will relax your mind and its also got alot of other good qualitys.

IF you are taking any precription medications be sure to check with your doctor first before taking anything that MAY interact with your medications, I AM NOT A DOCTOR.

Hi Can't Sleep.  I can imagine your situation must be maddening.  I lived most of my life with insomnia and thought I would go crazy.  One way I found to cope with it was by working 1:00pm to 10:00 pm.  That way I could get that sound sleep during the morning hours, sleep until noon and still work a good day.  I did eventually end up needing meds, but I have other psychiatric issues too, so that might not me necessary for you and, if it is, it is important that your doctor knows you are an addict so you can be prescribed a non-narcotic.  I don't know if you've been through treatment, but there's a reality called Postacute Withdrawal Symptoms (PAWS).  For up to 6-8 months after using you can still have insomnia, irritability, difficulty concentrating, mood swings and a number of other symptoms.  So hang in there.  You might just be having PAWS  and this too shall pass.

Thankyou both so much for offering these ideas.
I'll try anything safe for me to be able to sleep more than two hours every twenty four.
Yes. My doctor knows but he doesn't have any ideas but to wait it out.
I get the feeling he hasn't treated an addict before because he asks me quite a few weird questions!
I'm sure glad I found this board to be able to talk to about what freaks me out now.
Cheers,
