The Triangle of Self-Obsession

 The Triangle of Self-Obsession

When we are born we are conscious only of ourselves, we are the universe.
We perceive little other than our basic needs, and if these needs are met we are content.
As our consciousness expands we become aware of a world outside ourselves.
We discover that there are people, places, and things around us, and that they fulfill our needs.
At this point we also begin to recognize differences and develop preferences. We learn to want and choose.
We are the center of a growing universe and expect to be provided with the things we need and want. Our source of contentment shifts from basic needs miraculously met to the fulfillment of our desires.

Again, thank you Peggy. I came home from my meeting with using on my mind and was trying to do some step work out of the step working guide. Got to the self centerdness part of step 1 and couldn't see my self centeredness. Wanted to call my sponsor but it was 1 a.m. You helped me understand how it is that I have been and continue to be self centered in my addiction and my behaviors. I guess this is a very long standing behavior of mine. Anyway, following the suggestions, and grateful for your strength.

Hope you have a beautiful day in the misty PNW.

Love and Hugs

Jen
