JUST FOR TODAY :)

JUST FOR TODAY, I will live through this day only. I will not brood about yesterday or obsess about tomorrow. I will not set far-reaching goals or try to overcome all of my problems at once.JUST FOR TODAY, I will be happy. I will not dwell on thoughts that depress me. If my mind fills with clouds, I will chase them away and fill it with the sunshine.

....probably the most valuable concept, saying in all of NA!

Monday was my natal birthday, I've been pushing against some deadlines, getting really stressed, was out erranding before rushing a 40min drive to my workshop to do a 2 hour shift before rushing back into town for a b'day dinner and a meeting..... but really felt the stress as I battled my way through errands...........and soooo on!
I decided to drop the workshop, stopped for sushi, then decided to take it to the beach, enjoy my time, sit, breathe, be in the now.
It was a very enjoyable time, first of simply 'taking myself out' I've done in months!
I realized how -powerless- I am to deadlines, chaos of the world,, and actually how much these deadlines can be constructs from within. I realized that simply to back off on the ''must-do's'' even a bit opens up a lot of space for serenity, similar to slowing down even 5% makes no real difference in drivetime, but reduces stress a lot. I decided to make this a b'day gift to myself, allow myself to be a bit more 'now', a lot less stressed. So far, it's made a great difference in my week.

In sharing this with my sponsor, he pointed out that any time it feels like I'm trying to push a square peg into round hole is a time that I'm likely acting on self will rather than my H.P's., that makes a lot of sense.

Just for today,, I will allow myself to take a few extra moments to BE in the place that I am!

I was told that phrase was what Jimmy K was thinking when he came up with the NA  logo!

I never heard that before.....Thank you for your thoughtful post. It's so easy to say and so hard to do.

The triangle of self obsession can be very debilitating. Not only do we dwell on the past, we also fear for the future. And when things get bad we project them forward...as if things will not get better, they will only get worse. BUT ALL STORMS PASS....and we can make it.

JUST FOR TODAY my thoughts will be on my recovery living and enjoying life with out the use of drugs!
